In 2017, Cole Winn’s Jr. year of HS at Silver Creek High School in Longmont, Colorado, he was 9–0 with a 0.73 ERA with 95 strikeouts in 47 2⁄3 innings, and hit .388 with two home runs and 19 RBIs, earning himself the title of Colorado’s Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year.
He moved to California for his Sr. year and attended Lutheran High School of Orange County in Orange, California. That year he was 8–2 on the mound with a 0.20 ERA and was named California’s Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year and Baseball America’s High School Player of the Year.
Winn was selected 15th overall by the Texas Rangers in the 2018 MLB draft and signed for $3.15 million. He is currently ranked as the Texas Ranges #1 Pitching Prospect and the #60 overall top minor league prospect after winning The Nolan Ryan award as the organizations top minor league pitcher in 2021.
I first met Cole when we sat next to each other randomly at a Notre Dame vs. UNC basketball game in South Bend. That was in the winter of his So. year in HS. We have worked together ever since.
